iOS 10 telephone connectivity

Since upgrading to iOS 10 a couple of days ago, I am unable to make/receive phone calls.

I notice that I have zero bars/dots at top left of screen. I user Verizon to make phone calls. I know there is good connectivity in this area because my wife's phone with previous iOS has 3-4 bars.

As a result, I am unable to make or receive calls.

Oddly, I do get voice mails.

Is there something I should do to 're-initialize' my phone network on the new iOS operating system?

Thanks! any help is greatly appreciated.

Update: Went by the Verizon Store. The person there suggested what I had already done, Reset Network Settings.

He fiddled with it for about 30 min. and threw up his hands. Said either upgrade the phone (i have an iPhone 5) or call Apple.

Called Apple, spent 2 hours 45 min. We finally fixed the problem by downloading iOS 10.0.2 to iTunes on my laptop. Then we 'deleted' my phone and then restored iOS, all software, all data, firmware from iTunes on my laptop, and then at the end of all this...wait for it...

I got the message "An update to carrier settings is available, do you want to update?" Of course I said Update and at that point cellular connectivity was restored.

I must say that the Apple Help folks were very patient and helped me through what was a difficult problem. They are great to deal with.
